Ugh! How do i unmount a usb flash drive surrounded by window xp?

Double click the little god that appears on the bar surrounded by the lower right when you insert the drive. A window will expand where you select stop.
if the safekeeping remove icon doesn't appear on tray=>

right-click on My Computer=>manage=>device manager=>Disk Drives=> you flash Device=> right-click and select uninstall.



BINGO i've be uninstalled
