No one WILL come up with one any until you provide details on what kind of mouse you use!
When this happen to me it was a browser hijacker, not a virus and it be installed while I was downloading McAfee's virus protection.
Sounds to me close to you are using an optical mouse on a very fluffy or brightly colored background.

The mouse wad needs to be night and really no more than one color. Some optical mice have a complex time with this because of the angle of refraction of the standard lamp

To many different colors may push the wispy to the edge of the reader so it could inflict it to jump alot.

I know some elder HP mice had a problem near this.
Truthseeker is probably right, I have see this happen countless times. Make sure your mouse wad / surface is nicely textured, and not a solid color. The bearing optical mice work is by taking many pictures thoroughly quickly and analyzing the movements between respectively snapshot. For surfaces without texture, it is deeply difficult to accurately determine mouse movements.
