"Device not ready" would mingy that the cdrom drive controller can't recognize the drive. You can check this by going to Start> Control Panel> System. Go to Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button. Under "DVD/CD-ROM Drives", check if there's an exclamation deity that indicates a hardware device is not working.

From my experience, in attendance are few possibilities for this error.

1. CD-Rom drive might be busted and/or not supported by the operating system so see if you can replace the cd-rom drive.

2. CD-Rom IDE drive cable is broken. Replace with a new/working IDE cable.

3. PCI slot on the motherboard is dirty or ruined. Try other PCI slots.

4. The operating system is corrupted and can't recognize brand new hardware devices. You might need a reinstall/repair of the operating system.
